Overview

Universitatea '1 Decembrie 1918' din Alba Iulia (UAB) was established in 1991 by Romanian Government Decision no. 474/1991. Its name commemorates the Grand National Assembly held in Alba Iulia on December 1, 1918, the founding moment of the unification of Transylvania and the Banat with the Kingdom of Romania. Located in the historic heart of Romania, UAB is a state public institution of higher education and research with legal personality and academic autonomy, operating under the Romanian Constitution, Law no. 199/2023, and its own University Charter. The university operates five faculties — History, Letters and Education Sciences; Economic Sciences; Computer Science and Engineering; Law and Social Sciences; and Orthodox Theology — offering Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programs fully aligned with the Bologna system. In 2025, ARACIS awarded UAB its highest institutional rating: 'GRAD DE ÎNCREDERE RIDICAT' (High Confidence Rating) for 2025–2030. UAB also underwent an international evaluation by the European University Association (EUA) in 2013. The university maintains an active Centre for International Relations with numerous Erasmus+ partnerships, and provides student services including dormitories, a library, career guidance, and scientific research centers.
