Academy of Performing Arts in Prague

Founded on 27 October 1945 by Decree No. 127 of President Edvard Beneš, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) has grown into the largest and most prestigious arts school in the Czech Republic. It comprises three distinct faculties: the Film and TV School (FAMU), located in Lažanský Palace; the Theatre Faculty (DAMU), in Kokořovský Palace; and the Music and Dance Faculty (HAMU), in Lichtenštejnský and Hartigovský Palaces — all in the historic centre of Prague. AMU offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programmes in Czech and English, blending rigorous artistic education with academic and artistic research. Its approximately 1,500 students benefit from exceptional facilities including professional film and TV studios, concert halls, theatres (DISK and Inspirace), rehearsal rooms, and a centrally located residence hall. AMU maintains over 200 Erasmus+ partnerships and extensive bilateral agreements worldwide. It is celebrated globally, with FAMU frequently ranking among the world's top film schools.
