Overview

The Australian Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) was established in Sydney in 1993 as the Australian International Conservatorium of Music. It provides specialised music and dance higher education based on practical training, academic study and personal mentorship. Focus areas include contemporary and classical music, music theatre, production, composition and dance. Undergraduate awards include certificates, associate degrees and bachelor degrees; postgraduate music awards include a graduate certificate, graduate diploma and master's degree. Full-time bachelor degrees operate over two years using a trimester model, while postgraduate music uses semesters. The main campus in Surry Hills includes the Tom Mann Theatre, rehearsal spaces, music production suites, a recording studio, a library and a student lounge. Dance and Music Theatre students also use the AMPA Performing Arts Centre in Alexandria, with seven large dance studios. AMPA states that it is a TEQSA-registered Higher Education Provider, a registered FEE-HELP provider and a CRICOS-registered provider.
