Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA; Estonian: Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia) is a public specialist higher education institution in Tallinn, Estonia. Founded in 1919 as the Estonian Conservatoire, it was renamed the Estonian Academy of Music in 1993 and received its current name in 2005, reflecting the integration of theatre studies. EMTA is housed primarily at Tatari 13, Tallinn, with an additional campus for the Department of Theatre at Toom-Kooli 4. The academy offers accredited programmes at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels across five departments: Music Interpretation; Composition and Improvised Music; Musicology, Music Pedagogy and Arts Management; Theatre; and the Centre for Doctoral Studies. Teaching languages include Estonian and English. EMTA was institutionally accredited in April 2024 by MusiQuE (in cooperation with HAKA) for seven years until April 2031. The academy participates in Erasmus+ and other international cooperation networks, including the CoPeCo international joint Master's programme in contemporary music. It also offers continuing education through micro-degree programmes in areas such as music psychology and music production.
