Overview
The European University Institute (EUI) is an international postgraduate and research university established in 1972 by the member states of the European Union, situated in Fiesole, in the hills above Florence, Italy. It is a unique intergovernmental organisation dedicated to advanced research and teaching in the social sciences and humanities at the postgraduate level. EUI's four academic departments — History, Economics, Law, and Political and Social Sciences — offer PhD programmes leading to the EUI Doctor of Philosophy degree. The LLM Programme in Comparative, European and International Laws is offered by the Department of Law. The Max Weber Programme provides postdoctoral fellowships for early-career researchers across the social sciences and humanities. The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Florence School of Transnational Governance host research programmes, policy fellowships, executive training, and summer schools. EUI scholars and fellows come from across the EU and beyond, making it one of Europe's most international research environments.
