Overview
The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) is one of the world's leading specialist higher education institutions for art, design and architecture. Founded in 1845, the GSA is located in Garnethill, Glasgow, Scotland and is internationally recognised for its distinctive studio-based teaching model, research-led practice, and critical inquiry across disciplines. It is ranked 3rd in the UK and 8th in the world for art and design in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2026, and in REF 2021, 88% of the GSA's research impact was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent.
The GSA offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research programmes across four specialist schools: the School of Fine Art, the School of Design, the Mackintosh School of Architecture, and the School of Innovation & Technology. All degree programmes are validated by the University of Glasgow. The GSA also has a Highlands & Islands campus near Forres, Scotland, offering postgraduate and research study opportunities.
The GSA welcomes around 800 international students each year from across the world and has a global exchange network of over 75 partner art, design and architecture schools. Graduates go on to careers as exhibiting artists, award-winning designers, architects, curators, filmmakers, and creative entrepreneurs. The GSA is a registered Scottish charity (SC012490) and one of the UK's remaining independent specialist art schools.
