Overview
Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU / ΕΛΜΕΠΑ) is a public university in Greece established in May 2019 under Law 4610/2019, evolving from the former Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete. Its main campus is located in Estavromenos, Heraklion (postcode 71410), with four additional campuses in Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia — all on the island of Crete. The university enrolls approximately 12,200 students and has over 35,000 graduates. Each year it hosts around 200 Erasmus students. HMU offers 11 undergraduate programs: through the School of Engineering (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering), the School of Management and Economics (Management Science and Technology, Business Administration and Tourism, Accounting and Finance), the School of Health Sciences (Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Work, Nursing), the School of Agricultural Sciences (Agriculture), and the School of Music and Optoacoustic Technologies (Music Technology and Acoustics). The university also organizes and operates 13 postgraduate (MSc) programs, two of which are inter-institutional, and collaborates in four additional inter-institutional MSc programs and the Erasmus Mundus joint program EMINENT. Programs in engineering lead to an Integrated Master (level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework). HMU is active in European research through Horizon Europe projects and maintains 32 university laboratories and 230 doctoral candidates.
