Overview

Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) is Europe's largest network of art and design schools, founded in Milan in 1966 by the 24-year-old Francesco Morelli with a vision to shape a new kind of school for the creative professions. Since then, IED has grown to 11 campuses across Italy (Milan, Rome, Turin, Cagliari, Florence, Como), Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao) and Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro), attracting over 10,000 students per year from more than 100 nationalities and building a global alumni community of over 200,000. IED offers a wide range of programmes including Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master Programs, Postgraduate Programs, PhD, Foundation Courses, Summer Courses and Continuing Education, covering design, fashion, visual arts, communication, art and restoration. In Italy, degrees are recognised by the Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca (MUR); in Spain by the Ministry of Education; in Brazil by the Ministério da Educação. IED holds institutional memberships in Cumulus, Elia and WDO. Since 2017, IED has been owned by the non-profit Francesco Morelli Foundation, and in 2022 IED SpA became a Benefit Corporation. In 2026, IED celebrates its 60th anniversary under the theme 'Plural Intelligences'.
