Overview

John Cabot University (JCU) is an independent, not-for-profit American liberal arts university located in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, Italy. Founded in 1972, JCU is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in the State of Delaware and licensed to award degrees by the Delaware Department of Education. It is also authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education to operate as an American university in Italy.

JCU offers 16 undergraduate majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree (120 credit hours, 4 years), two Master of Arts programs in Art History and International Affairs, and a range of study abroad programs for visiting students. All degree programs are taught in English, following the American liberal arts tradition with a focus on breadth of study and specialization. The university also offers an Associate of Arts degree and an intensive English Language for University Studies (ENLUS) program.

JCU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The Frank J. Guarini School of Business received AACSB accreditation in 2022. JCU participates in the U.S. Title IV Federal Direct Student Loan Program.

The university occupies 7 campus buildings in Rome. It offers student housing, career services with 135 industry partners, and 20+ student clubs and organizations. Approximately 85% of students receive a JCU scholarship or grant, with $8 million awarded annually.
