Overview
Keele University (legal name: The University of Keele) is a public research university established in 1949 by Lord Lindsay as the University College of North Staffordshire, receiving its Royal Charter in 1962. Located on a 600-acre campus in Keele, Staffordshire, midway between Manchester and Birmingham, it is one of the largest campus universities in the UK. The university is home to over 15,000 students from more than 120 countries and a global alumni network of over 100,000 in 162 countries. Keele is organised into three faculties — Business, Law, Humanities and Social Sciences; Medicine and Health Sciences; and Natural Sciences — offering programmes from foundation year through to doctoral level, as well as apprenticeships, CPD and online master's programmes. Keele achieved Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework in both 2017 and 2023, making it one of only 15 broad-based universities in England to achieve Gold in both exercises. In the Research Excellence Framework 2021, 80% of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. Keele is an exempt charity regulated by the Office for Students (OfS) and holds a Companies House registration number of RC000655.
