Mozyr State Pedagogical University named after I. P. Shamyakin

Mozyr State Pedagogical University named after I. P. Shamyakin (MSPU) is a public pedagogical university in Mozyr, Gomel Region, Republic of Belarus. It was founded in March 1944 as the first institution of higher education in Mozyr. Over its history the university progressed from a Teachers' Training Institute to its current status as a full university, receiving the name of the prominent Belarusian literary and political figure Ivan Petrovich Shamyakin by Presidential Decree No. 500 of 4 August 2006. MSPU is housed across three buildings in Mozyr and comprises six academic faculties: Philology; Physics and Engineering; Technology and Biology; Physical Education; Preschool and Elementary Education; and Advanced Training and Staff Retraining. The university employs approximately 27 chairs and trains around 6,000 students. It offers Bachelor's degree (1st-stage higher education), Master's degree (2nd-stage higher education), and postgraduate (PhD/candidate of sciences) programmes. Research activities are organised through five specialised laboratories and the Science and Research Institute of Regional Problems of Recreation Therapy and Folklife Culture. MSPU maintains bilateral cooperation agreements with more than 50 universities and organisations in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Moldova, Germany, Bulgaria and other countries. Three on-campus student dormitories accommodate all foreign students.
