Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) is a public research university founded in 1959, situated in the historical centre of Košice, Slovakia. It is the second oldest classical university in Slovakia and operates under the Slovak Higher Education Act with programmes accredited by the Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (SAAVŠ). The university offers over 250 study programmes at bachelor, master and doctoral levels – including more than 50 English-taught programmes – across five faculties: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Public Administration, and Faculty of Arts, as well as the Institute of Physical Education and Sport. UPJŠ holds the HR Excellence in Research award and is an active member of the Aurora Alliance and the European University Association. It maintains an extensive international partnerships network through Erasmus+, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, and participation in international university rankings. The campus, located in the city centre, features modern laboratories, barrier-free facilities, student dormitories, a university library, a botanical garden, and a student café.
