Overview

Founded in 1990, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) began operations at the Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia with approximately 20 staff. In 1995 it moved to its own premises of approximately 10,000 m². On 2 July 2026, a new state-of-the-art building was inaugurated, housing new research groups, modern laboratories, and advanced research infrastructure.

CING operates as a private non-profit, bi-communal centre with three core pillars: specialised healthcare services, research, and education. It provides specialised clinical and laboratory services for neurological, genetic and other conditions, and conducts pioneering biomedical research integrating clinical practice with laboratory diagnostics.

In 2012, CING established its postgraduate school — the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine (CSMM) — offering seven accredited MSc and PhD programmes in Molecular Medicine, Medical Genetics, Neuroscience, and Biotechnology, all taught in English. The MSc programmes are 13 months full-time or 24 months part-time; PhD programmes are 4-6 years full-time or 6-8 years part-time. Total tuition is EUR 8,000 for MSc and EUR 20,750 for PhD (with years 2-4 covered by CING for enrolled PhD students).

Students work alongside leading scientists and clinicians in highly specialised departments including Cancer Genetics, Molecular Virology, Biochemical Genetics, Cytogenetics & Genomics, Neurogenetics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Neuroscience, and Clinical Genetics. CING has a high employment rate among graduates and offers full and partial scholarships based on academic merit, as well as scholarships for international students.
