Overview
The University of Borås (UB) is a public higher education institution located in the city of Borås in southwestern Sweden. Founded in 1977, UB has grown to serve approximately 19,500 students with around 820 employees. The university is organised into four faculties: The Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business; The Faculty of Caring Science, Work Life and Social Welfare; The Faculty of Librarianship, Information, Education and IT; and The Faculty of Police Work. UB is internationally renowned for the Swedish School of Textiles—one of Europe's leading textile and fashion higher education environments—and the Swedish School of Library and Information Science, the most extensive research environment in its discipline in Sweden. The university's six priority research areas are Library and Information Science, Business and IT, The Human Perspective in Care, Educational Work, Resource Recovery, and Textiles and Fashion. The Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery (SCRR) at UB conducts world-leading multidisciplinary research in material recycling and waste valorisation. UB has a certified Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and has been tasked by the Swedish government to lead Textile & Fashion 2030, the national platform for sustainable fashion and textiles. The campus is centrally located in Borås, and the institution is a member of the European University Association (EUA). External quality assurance is conducted by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), with the most recent institutional review in 2025.
