Overview
The University of Lausanne (UNIL) is a public research university located in Lausanne, in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Founded in 1890, UNIL is one of Switzerland's leading universities, situated on the Dorigny campus on the shores of Lake Geneva, with additional sites at CHUV and Epalinges. The university is organised into seven faculties: the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies (FTSR), the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration (FDCA), the Faculty of Arts (Lettres), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (SSP), the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC), the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment (FGSE), and the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) — three of which are unique in Switzerland. UNIL offers 15 Bachelor programmes, 43 Master programmes and 31 Doctoral titles, and provides continuing education through MAS, DAS, CAS and short course formats. With over 210 research units and approximately 5,000 researchers, UNIL is a comprehensive research university that promotes interdisciplinarity. It holds institutional accreditation from the Swiss Agency of Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AAQ), with a positive decision issued on 25 June 2021, valid until 24 June 2028. UNIL is a founding member of the CIVIS European Civic University Alliance and participates in international mobility programmes including the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP).
